How it works
Recognise text in three steps
Choose your scan
A scanned PDF or a photo of a document.
Choose the language
Dutch, French, German or English, or several together. The language data loads the first time.
Text and PDF
Copy the text, or download the searchable PDF: your scan with the text invisibly behind it.
Good to know
- 1
How well does the recognition work?
With a sharp, straight scan of printed text, usually very well. Handwriting, stains or skewed photos work less well. Plooi shows how sure it is of the text.
- 2
Why does the first time take longer?
The first time, your browser fetches the language data from our own site (a few MB per language). After that your browser remembers it. Your scan itself goes nowhere.
- 3
What is a searchable PDF?
Your scan looks exactly the same, but the recognised text sits invisibly underneath. So you can search with Ctrl+F and select text.
