Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about your privacy, the tools and their limits.

Your files

  • Do my files go to a server?

No. Plooi works entirely in your browser. Your PDFs, photos and passwords stay on your own device. The site technically allows no outgoing connections.

  • Why does Plooi sometimes load something?

Plooi only loads the heavy parts (for drawing PDFs and recognising text) when you need them, from our own site. That’s fetching, never sending.

  • Do I need to create an account?

No. No account, no email address, no cookies to follow you.

The tools

  • Is it really free?

Yes. No watermark, no limit on how often, no ads. Plooi is a free tool from nealvdv, part of Handig.

  • Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in a recent browser. Large files or lots of pages do go more smoothly on a computer, because it has more memory.

  • Is a signature from Plooi legally valid?

It is an image of your signature on the page, like a scanned signature. That is not a qualified electronic signature and not an eID signature. Whether it is enough depends on who is asking for the document.

Limits

  • How big can my files be?

Up to 200 MB in total at a time. Beyond that, many devices run out of memory.

  • Can Plooi crack a password?

No, deliberately not. Unlocking only works with the password you know.

  • Why does my Word document look different as a PDF?

Plooi lays the content out neatly on A4: headings, text, lists, tables and images. Complex layouts such as columns or text boxes come out simpler. For an exact copy, use ‘Save as PDF’ in Word.
